The House of Deputies informs the House of Bishops that on Jun 28, 2024 it considered resolution C023 (Commemorating The Philadelphia Eleven in the Church Calendar). The house acted to:

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring,

Concerning the following “first reading” commemorations received from the church, 

(1) That the commemoration of The Ordination of the Philadelphia Eleven (July 29) be authorized for trial use under Article X.b for the triennium 2024-2027 with the following propers: 

I: O God of Persistent Grace, who didst call the Philadelphia Eleven to the priesthood and didst grant them courage and boldness to respond, thereby opening the eyes of thy church to the giftedness and equality of all: grant us so to hear, trust, and follow thy Holy Spirit wheresoever she may lead, that the gifts of all thy people may flourish throughout the earth, through Christ our Savior. Amen. 

II: O God of Persistent Grace, you called the Philadelphia Eleven to the priesthood and granted them courage and boldness to respond, thereby opening the eyes of your church to the giftedness and equality of all: grant us so to hear, trust, and follow your Holy Spirit wherever she may lead, that the gifts of all your people may flourish throughout the earth, through Christ our Savior. Amen.

(2) That the commemoration of Élie Naud (September 7) be authorized for trial use under Article X.b for the triennium 2024-2027 with the following propers: 

I: Blessed God, whose Son Jesus calmed the waves and knelt to serve his disciples: We give thee honor for the witness of the Huguenot Élie Naud, remembered as Mystic of the Galleys and Ser vant of Slaves; praying that, with him, we may proclaim Christ in suffering and joy alike, and call others to join us in ministry to those littlest and least, following Jesus who came not to be ministered to but to minister; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, to whom be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I: Almighty God, who didst commission thy holy martyr George to bear before the rulers of this world the banner of the cross: Strengthen us in our battles against the great serpent of sin and evil, that we too may attain the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Resolved, concerning the following “first reading” commemorations received from the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, 

(4) That the commemoration of Liliʻuokalani of Hawai’i (January 29) be authorized for trial use under Article X.b for the triennium 2024-2027; and that this General Convention authorize for trial use the propers for this feast as presented in the 2024 Blue Book Report of the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, page 47; and 

(5) That the commemoration of Adeline Blanchard Tyler and her Companions (November 4) be authorized for trial use under Article X.b for the triennium 2024-2027; and that this General Convention authorize for trial use the propers for this feast as presented in the 2024 Blue Book Report of the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, page 45; and be it further 

Resolved, that this General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music to edit the biographies for these commemorations, attending to clarity, historical accuracy and timelessness.
